UW-Superior names Hewan Haileselassie as commencement student speaker


The University of Wisconsin-Superior will hold its commencement on Saturday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at Siinto S. Wessman Arena on the UW-Superior campus. Hewan Haileselassie will serve as commencement student speaker.

Haileselassie is an international student from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing.

As a dedicated member of the Black Student Union, School of Business and Economics Event Planning Committee, UWS Changemakers and Intercultural Programming Council, Haileselassie has played a pivotal role in nurturing a strong sense of community and promoting cultural diversity at UW-Superior. Haileselassie has also worked as an administrative assistant in the Human Resources Office and as a building manager at the Yellowjacket Union.

Through her active involvement in these organizations, Haileselassie has contributed to creating inclusive spaces, organizing impactful events, and advocating for social justice on both local and global scales.
