News and Event Details
Mat Winter of Woodruff, Wis., a student at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, has been nominated for an Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship in association with the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
Winter played the role of Phil Hogan in University Theatre's fall production of "A Moon for the Misbegotten" at UW-Superior. He now advances to a regional competition. If successful there, he will attend the festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., in April.
Winter is majoring in broad field science teaching and minoring in physics and theatre.
Last fall University Theatre at UW-Superior entered its play with the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival as an associate production. As part of that association, an adjudicator visited the production and provided feedback. In addition, one student received a scholarship nomination.
The Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship awards scholarships to outstanding student performers at each regional level. Since 1972, the Irene Ryan Foundation has awarded 19 regional awards and two fellowships annually made possible by the late Irene Ryan. The scholarships are awarded to the recipient's university to pay tuition and fees for further education.
