Faculty and Staff Details
Deborah Schlacks is Professor of English in the Writing and Library Science Department. She also serves the campus as Coordinator of Writing across the Curriculum/Writing Center Director. A native of Texas, she received a BA in psychology in 1978 from Baylor University, an MA in English in 1982 from Texas Woman's University, and a PhD in English with a Concentration in Rhetoric from TWU in 1986. She taught at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas for 10 years before coming to UW-Superior in 1996. Her past publications include American Dream Visions: Chaucer's Surprising Influence on F. Scott Fitzgerald (Peter Lang, 1994). A chapter on the influence of his hometown, St. Paul, on Fitzgerald will soon appear in the book F. Scott Fitzgerald in Context, forthcoming from Cambridge University Press. She regularly teaches such courses as first-year writing, Introduction to Rhetoric, and a course crosslisted with Women's and Gender Studies entitled Writing Women, Women Writing. A resident of the Lake Amnicon area, she enjoys reading; writing; watching old movies; and spending time with her husband Eric, daughters Beth and Laura, and pets Buddy and Delilah.
