Center for Academic Advising

New Transfers

New Transfer Student advisement and registration for new students who have earned 22 college credits or more begins April 1, 2013.

Who is Eligible to Participate in the April Advisement Period?

Students who have been officially admitted, have paid their $100 enrollment fee, have completed the Transfer On-line Orientation course, and who have submitted all official transcripts, including in-progress course work, are eligible to advise and register. Students who have earned 21 credits or less will attend a summer SOAR enrollment event. (See SOAR 2013.)

Beginning Fall Semester 2012, new transfer students who have earned 22 credits or more will be required to complete the Transfer Online Orientation Course prior to advising and registering for classes.

1. Fill out and submit the "Declare Your Major" Form. Once this form is received, Center staff will activate your record and load you into the Transfer Online Orientation course.  This is a 24 - 48 hour process.  You will be notified by email to your UWS email account when you will be able to access the course.

Center staff will verify that all of your transcript(s) have arrived and that your transfer credit evaluation is up-to-date.  If you are currently enrolled in classes at another institution and this information is not included on your transcript, Center staff will request you provide an updated transcript or a current class schedule identifying your in-progress classes for advisement purposes.  It is imperative that this information is on file and available to your advisor in order for you to be appropriately advised.

Center Staff will also check to see if you need to take a math and/or English Placement test. Students needing to take a placement test will need to contact the Testing Office at 715 394-8087 or via their web site at http://www.uwsuper.edu/support/testing/uw-placement.cfm to schedule the appropriate test(s).

2. Complete the Transfer Student On-Line Orientation Course. When you submit your "Declare Your Major" Form, your record will be activated and you will be loaded into the on-line course.  It takes a full 24-hours from the time your record is activated for our system to load a student into the online orientation course.  Once you are successfully loaded into the course, instructions for accessing and completing the course will be sent to you via your UWS email account.  When you have completed the course and all required quizzes, submit the Statement of Completion.  When this statement is received, Center staff will verify that you have completed all of the Orientation Course quizzes and you will then be emailed your advisor name and contact information via your UWS email account with instructions to contact your advisor to schedule an advisement session.

3. It is your responsibility to schedule an advisement appointment with your advisor and to keep the appointment. If you leave a phone message and/or e-mail for your advisor but you don't receive a response within three business days, contact the Center Office at advise@uwsuper.edu

Note:  It is the student's responsibility to be knowledgeable of policies and procedures pertaining to academic requirements, dates, and deadlines as indicated in the on-line UWS catalog and academic calendar.

We hope this information is of help to you. If you have any further questions, contact the Center for Academic Advisement at via email at advise@uwsuper.edu.
