Winter Commencement


The University of Wisconsin-Superior will hold its 2008 Winter Commencement at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2008, in Thorpe Langley Auditorium in Old Main on the UW-Superior campus. Because of anticipated turnout, this location might change. Please watch this page for updates. Directions to campus and Old Main.

Student participation: Students eligible to participate in Commencement receive a letter from the Registrar's Office containing information about participating in the ceremony. For information, please contact the Registrar's Office.

Tickets: Due to the size of the auditorium, admission is by ticket. We currently expect graduating student will receive three or four tickets. Additional tickets may be available. Graduating students should be sure to return the response card they receive from the Registrar's Office to indicate whether they will attend, and whether they are requesting additional tickets.

Video Rooms: Guests also may watch the Commencement ceremony by video. No ticket is required for admission to the two video rooms in Old Main.

Graduation brunch: Graduates, family members and friends are invited to celebrate at a special brunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Danielson Alumni Room and Student Lounge of Rothwell Student Center. Brunch will be served by A'viands. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. Reservations must be made with A'viands by Nov. 26. For more information call 715-394-8102 or visit the Dining Service Office in Rothwell Student Center. Reservations will be held at the door. Due to reserved seating, no tickets will be sold at the door.

Parking: Parking is available in university lots. Please observe all posted parking regulations. The best parking for this year's ceremony will be in Lot 7 between Jim Dan Hill Library and Holden Fine Arts Center. Additional parking is available in Lot 2. Please advise your guests that parking in Lot 2 will require a few extra minutes of walking to avoid the construction area.

Spring Commencement 2009

  
The University of Wisconsin-Superior will hold its 2009 Spring Commencement at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2009, at Wessman Arena on the UW-Superior campus. Directions to campus and Wessman Arena.

Student participation: Students eligible to participate in Commencement receive a letter from the Registrar's Office in April containing information about participating in the ceremony. For information, please contact the Registrar's Office.

The Ceremony: Because of the large number of graduates and guests attending, Wessman Arena's seating areas and parking lot fill quickly. For their convenience, guests should arrive at least 45 minutes before the ceremony begins. Seating may not be available for guests who arrive later than 1:40 p.m. Commencement generally lasts two hours.

Attire: Caps and gowns must be worn by all graduates. They can be purchased through the University Bookstore in Rothwell Student Center.

Parking: Parking is available at Wessman Arena, along Catlin Avenue and in the Superior High School lots. Please observe all posted parking regulations. Parking areas fill rapidly. For your convenience, please plan to arrive at least 45 minutes before the ceremony begins.

Seating:

  • Open seating is available in the stadium seating section of Wessman Arena.
  • Seating is available on the arena floor. Preference for these seats is given to people who have difficulty climbing stairs and their families.
  • Handicapped seating is available on the arena floor. Ask an usher for assistance.

Roses: Roses are sold in the lobby as a service by the UW-Superior Student Ambassadors.

Photographers: A commercial photographer photographs all students as they receive their diplomas. Instructions for purchasing these photos are included in the information letter each graduate receives from the Registrar's Office in April.

Family photography: An area on the main floor is set aside for family and friends to take photographs or video of graduates as they are presented their diplomas on stage. After you have taken your photos, please exit the photo area so others may use it. Guests are welcome to photograph graduates in front of the stage after the Commencement ceremony ends. Photography areas with UW-Superior banners as a backdrop are available in the lobby.
