2007 Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run June 6, 2007. 2006 MOCK VEHICLE ACCIDENT DRILL The Campus Safety Department sponsored a Mock Vehicle Accident Drill with other local Emergency Response Teams from the Superior Police Department, Superior Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance Service on Thursday, September 18, 2006 at 12:00pm on Catlin Avenue between 16th Street and 19th Street. The scenario was of a two vehicle head-on collision with one fatality and several injured parties. The accident was caused by a drunk driver. All agencies responded CODE 3 as though they were responding to a real call and continued with responses to the situation as it unfolded. The victims and the drunk driver were all played by student volunteers from UW-Superior. This was a great training event for our local ERT members and our Campus Safety Department. It also provided a very dramatic visual learning experience for our campus and community members that came by to observe what was happening. There was also local News coverage of the event. It received many compliments from those in attendance. We wish to thank all of the people that participated in and observed our Mock Vehicle Accident Drill. We hope to sponsor another one in the future! Pictures of the Mock Vehicle Accident Drill 2006. (This is a Microsoft Power Point Presentation of 31 pictures in part one taken by a UW-S Staff Member and 119 pictures in part two taken by UW-S Student - Jeffrey Jensen. CAMPUS SAFETY DAY FALL 2004 On October 4th from 10:00am-2:00pm the Department of Campus Safety will once again be holding its annual safety events in the Rothwell Student Center. We will have numerous agencies at this event such as the Superior Police Department K-9 unit, Fire Department with demonstrations being held outside at 11:30am (West side of RSC), Sheriff’s Department with Child Restraints for car seats and numerous other agencies. The Department of Campus Safety will be housing two simulator vehicles within the RSC Concourse so stop over and test your driving ability. Both these simulators test your driving ability while showing you what it is like to drive while intoxicated. The Campus Safety Department will also be demonstrating the RAD program that consists of Self Defense for Women at Noon in the RSC Concourse. We will have sign up sheets with the next course dates and times available, so if you’re interested I would sign up because classes have been filling fast. You will also have a chance to visit with McGruff and learn about the new program recently put into place by Campus Safety. If you have K-5 children attending the Public or Private School System you will more than likely have your child come home and tell you they met McGruff. The program will consist of Safety Issues and in addition we have been asked to focus on issues that relate to Bullying Prevention. We have received a large response from the School District requesting our program. We will also be having numerous safety programs taking place within the Residence Halls. You may also notice McGruff walking the hallways of your building on Campus Safety Day and if you stop and say “Hi” too McGruff it could earn you a free coupon for a cup of coffee or cappuccino in the RSC Coffee Knock. The Campus Safety Department will have numerous free items they will be handing out this year such as whistles, handcuff key chains, bottle coolers, ice scrapers and other items so come early because we expect the supplies to go fast! You may also notice a Radar Unit that indicates your speed out on Catlin Avenue somewhere. We also encourage everyone to check us out on the Web for Campus Safety Information. We hope to see you at Campus Safety Day!
