Media,Body Image, and Eating Disorders: Building Community Awareness
The session will provide a basic level of understanding of eating disorders,reasons someone may develop an eating disorder as well as tools for prevention.The workshop will focus on how to promote positive body image and self-esteem,while promoting optimal health and well-being through joyful activity,nutrition and self-care.

Melissa'Missy' became passionate about issues surrounding food, body image andself-esteem during nearly a decade as a counselor, and later director ofstudent support services at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. Missyserved on the Eating Disorder Task Force, helping develop a protocol toidentify students needing support versus those needing formal treatment. Shealso helped develop eating issue prevention strategies on campus. Missy has amaster's in education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, with aconcentration in community counseling and is a licensed professional counselor.Her experience also includes working with issues surrounding depression,anxiety, and adjustment
