Network Administration Devices ( 25 % )
Administer network routers, switches, wireless and management tools. Monitor network performance (Ciscoworks) and plan redundant network. Implement trunking.

Oversee management of wide area network bandwidth (adaptive response), back office services (DNS, WINS, DHCP – transition to IP6), campus wireless services. Investigate VoIP and Cell Phone services.

Maintain and monitor LAN Manager Network management system.

Manage Access Control Server used for authentication

Packeteer for WAN traffic management

Monitor network performance and keep statistics that can be used in evaluating network bottlenecks. Track load levels and utilization trends to be used in capacity planning eg use MRTG graphs, network manager and access control server to monitor network

Router configuration, management, backup, troubleshoot.

WAP – wireless access point deployment

Layer 2 & Layer 3 design

Support campus Internet connection including router, T1 circuits. Troubleshoot problems with Internet connection

Network Applications
Perform server & client upgrades to donor accounting & the online giving site.

Support the campus WIKI system

Support the campus PHP Survey system

Network Security ( 20 % )
Continuous development of campus network security and disaster recovery policies.

Certificate management

Intrusion Detection to secure the network by setting alerts and blocking problematic traffic.

Security Response

Firewall Manage to secure the campus.

Remote Access - VPN, dialin server

Wireless Security Systems - RADIUS, BlueSocket, Cisco Wireless Engine

Support numerous security services including an edge anti-x device (spam, spyware & viruses), wireless authentication, digital certificates to secure e-business, PKI for digital signatures, VPN for secure off campus access, network Res Hall quarantine

Manage Cisco Clean Access Server

Server Administration ( 15 % )
Manage server purchases specifications. Oversee server installation and configuration in a consistent fashion. Oversee patch management and server backups. Manage server performance. Manage active directory, group policies, user accounts/LDAP.

Manage Systems Management Server and support its use by the helpdesk and desktop groups. Investigate, implement and support web server technologies. Provide for enterprise e-mail. Implement Xythos.

Specify, design and purchase Servers and service contracts. Server consolidation as required by MS Contract.

The installation and configuration of servers in a consistent fashion including Windows & Linux. Keeping servers patch current and secure.

Evaluate new server technologies: SAN, virtual servers, Citrix

Managing server performance and reconfiguring as required for acceptable performance and minimal downtime.

Setup and configure of Web Servers. Audit Web Severs

Support Donor accounting application and Online Giving site

Student Network Registration System (NetReg)

Telephone Accounting
Manage the campus telephone system which includes three telephone switches, local and long distance trunks, voice mail and a conferencing system. Supervision of Telephone support personnel

New projects include Unified Messaging, VoIP and possibly a Cellular One program for students. This will require knowledge of Cisco Switch QOS and planning for Call Manager.
