SUMMARY:Art Exhibit — Sasha Howell
DESCRIPTION:Rebel SpectacleA solo exhibition of the work of Sasha Howell \nSeptember 24 – November 5\, 2026Gallery Hours: Monday–Friday\, 3–7 pm\nFree admission!\n \nKruk GalleryHolden Fine Arts BuildingUniversity of Wisconsin\, Superior\n \nClosing reception\, November 5\, 5-7pm\nFree admission!\n \n“Costumes spend their lives helping tell someone else’s story. Rebel Spectacle is a chance to bring them into the light and let people see the craft\, chaos\, history\, and imagination inside them.”\n \nAn unruly celebration of costumes and creativity from the mind and hands of Sasha Howell featuring upcycling projects\, theatrical experiments\, and all sorts of costume chaos with a little Rebel edge.\n \n“Rebel Spectacle” showcases transformation\, storytelling\, resourcefulness\, play\, and the beautifully strange life of clothing made for performance. It gives visitors a chance to see costumes outside of their usual role onstage and look more closely at the craftsmanship\, problem-solving\, experimentation\, history\, and imagination built into them.\n \nSasha Howell is a costume designer\, maker\, educator\, and founder of Rebel Threads\, a sewing and creative reuse makerspace serving the Twin Ports. Her work explores storytelling through clothing\, transformation\, theatricality\, identity\, and the strange magic that happens when materials\, characters\, and imagination collide.

SUMMARY:Election Hero Day
DESCRIPTION:Election Hero Day \nJackets Vote  a program of the Link Center\, is inviting students to join us for Election Hero Day* on Wednesday\, October 21 from 12:00pm-2:00pm in the Yellowjacket Union.   \n  \nElection Hero Day is a nonpartisan national celebration recognizing the election officials\, poll workers\, clerks\, and election staff who help ensure safe\, secure\, and accessible elections for all voters. \n  \nElection Hero Day is an opportunity to learn more about the dedicated individuals who work behind the scenes to support the democratic process. From processing voter registrations and managing polling locations to assisting voters and counting ballots\, election heroes play a vital role in helping communities participate in elections with confidence. \n  \nJoin Jackets Vote in recognizing and thanking the election workers in our communities whose commitment and service help make democracy possible. Students are encouraged to learn about election administration\, explore opportunities to serve as poll workers\, and show appreciation for the people who ensure every eligible voter has the opportunity to cast their ballot successfully. \n  \nBy celebrating Election Hero Day\, we acknowledge the hard work of those who keep our elections running smoothly and strengthen civic participation in our communities. \n  \n*Nationally\, Election Hero Day is celebrated on Tuesday\, October 20; however\, UW-Superiors students are on Fall Break. \n  \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Resistance Writing in Writing
DESCRIPTION:If storytelling is what makes us human\, it is resistance writing that makes us a united people. After all\, it was Margaret Atwood who wrote\, “A word after a word after a word is power.” Harnessing that power to speak up about what matters most to us is what resistance writing is all about.\n\n\nThis three-week course will harness the power of words to express solidarity and examine identity. Through the words of great orators such as MLK\, Emmeline Pankhurst\, and Nelson Mandela\, we will explore human rights in the U.S.\, England\, and South Africa. We will examine speeches made in New Zealand’s parliament along with the Maori Haka and how it was used to advocate for the rights of the Maori people. We will read poetry from Toni Morrison and journal entries from Malala Yousafzai to see the various forms resistance writing can take. Through literary analysis\, we will be inspired to share our voices and take action in a way that feels authentic and right. There will be time carved into these sessions for writing and feedback.\n\n\nThe written word is an empowering tool to share impact and story. Join us as we craft meaningful writing that speaks to what matters to you most. \n\nThe cost to attend this individual workshop is $60\, preregistration is required. \nTo Register Click Here

SUMMARY:Free Speech Week with the Foundation for Individual Rights & Expression (FIRE)
DESCRIPTION:Free Speech Week with the Foundation for Individual Rights & Expression (FIRE) \n  \nJackets Vote\,  a program of the Link Center\, is inviting all students\, faculty\, staff and the surrounding community to join for presentation from Lindsie Rank from the Foundation for Individual Rights & Expression (FIRE) on Wednesday\, October 21 from 5:30-7:30pm in the Yellowjacket Union Great Rooms. \n  \nAs part of Free Speech Week\, Ms. Rank will share a presentation titled “Free Speech Is Easy Until You Hate the Speech.” Nine in ten college students say free speech is important\, but research paints a more complicated picture when it comes to offensive\, provocative\, or unpopular speech. So what does it really mean to support free expression? Drawing on real campus disputes across the ideological spectrum\, this lecture will explore what it takes to apply free speech principles consistently. \n  \nFree parking\, beverages\, and refreshments will be provided! \nTo register\, please click here: uwsuper.edu/superiordialogues \nThis event is part of UW-Superior’s Superior Dialogues series. Superior Dialogues is UW-Superior’s nonpartisan civil discourse and dialogue series that brings together students\, faculty\, staff\, and community members to engage across differences and discuss complex issues constructively. Through workshops\, speakers\, facilitated conversations\, and community events\, participants build skills in respectful dialogue\, free expression\, viewpoint diversity\, and civic engagement while strengthening understanding and connections across the community. \nQuestions? Please reach out to the Link Center at link@uwsuper.edu. \nJackets Vote\, the Link Center and UW-Superior are nonpartisan and neither endorse nor oppose any political party\, candidate or viewpoint. This is a nonpartisan voter and civic education program. The views and opinions expressed by speakers are their own and do not necessarily reflect those of the University of Wisconsin-Superior. \n  \nNeed accommodations? UW-Superior students should contact DSS at disability@uwsuper.edu or call 715-394-8188 (V)\, 1-800-947-3529 (MRS/TTY)
