Overview

Anthropology began as a way to catalog and explain human diversity, particularly those cultures deemed as exotic or primitive. Today, it has transformed into a comprehensive study of peoples, cultures and practices across the globe.

As you inquire into the nature, meaning and significance of culture through this program, you will explore diverse peoples and communities including Latin American, Native American, African, Asian and Middle Eastern cultures.

Explore human origins and physical and cultural diversity while you apply anthropological approaches to practical problems such as health, social issues and education.

What You’ll Learn

While pursuing a minor in anthropology, you will explore human origins and physical and cultural diversity while applying anthropological approaches to practical problems such as health, social issues and education.

Through a minor in anthropology at UW-Superior, you will be able to:

  • Understand research techniques, concepts and theories to study the human experience and conduct research
  • Identify and address ethical issues in your own and others’ work
  • Cultivate awareness and analysis of the role of culture in worldviews and practices
  • Engage with diverse people, perspectives and practices in an open-minded and self-reflective manner

Being part of UW-Superior’s Anthropology program has been an amazing experience. Through personal observations and fieldwork partnered with research into global cultural diversity, I have been able to learn so much more about people locally and globally. It has been a great supplement to my history major and is an ideal minor for anybody interested in human experience, behavior, or diversity.
