UW-Superior names Mike Wiggins Jr. as commencement speaker

The University of Wisconsin-Superior will hold its commencement on Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at Siinto S. Wessman Arena on the UW-Superior campus. Mike Wiggins Jr. will serve as commencement speaker.

Wiggins is the chairman of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Prior to this role, Wiggins served as a conservation warden for the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission and as a home-school coordinator for the School District of Ashland.

A 1992 graduate of UW-Superior with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Wiggins is also a major advocate for the conservation of natural resources. In 2019, he was named an Outstanding Alumni.

A vocal leader in the protection of the Penokee Hills and maintaining safe groundwater, Wiggins, an avid hunter, fisherman and harvester, has become an advocate for natural resources and environmental stewardship, as well as a mentor for young people, advising students to further their educations beyond high school.

A live video feed will also be available the day of the ceremony. Siinto S. Wessman Arena is located at 2701 Catlin Ave. in Superior.
