UW-Superior to host ‘Social Media & Its Impacts’ presentation

TYPE

The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Dr. Lydia Thering and Ms. Joan Hedrick Lecture Series will begin its fall speaker series with Max Stossel presenting “Social Media & Its Impacts” on Thursday, September 28, at 6 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room.

Free and open to the community, Stossel, from Social Awakening and The Center for Humane Technology, will illustrate some of the specific ways technology is designed to be addictive and distracting, highlight how that’s impacting our minds, and give recommendations on how to address some of the challenges we (as individuals and a society) may be facing.

This presentation will conclude with open space to discuss what’s working and not working in households.

Stossel is an artist named by Forbes as one of the best storytellers of the year, and the Youth & Education Advisor for the Center for Humane Technology, an organization of former tech insiders dedicated to realigning technology with humanity.

He has spent the past six years speaking with more than 100,000 students, parents and educators around the world about social media’s impact on our lives and creating resources to help manage that impact.

Additional information and registration, which is required, is available at uwsuper.edu/max-stossel. The Yellowjacket Union is located at 1605 Catlin Ave. in Superior.
