Overview
Global Studies is an interdisciplinary minor that will provide you with a wide range of perspectives, experiences and skills that will prepare you to be a global citizen. Drawing upon globally focused courses, the program will prepare you to play an active role in the world and to bring an inclusive, global perspective to the workplace. It not only provides a broad knowledge of people, cultures, governments and economies throughout the world; it also practices skill sets that are beneficial for careers in every sector within the global economy. This program is beneficial when combined with nearly any major and provides valuable background, perspectives and critical thinking skills sought by employers across all fields.
What You’ll Learn
In this minor, you will take foundational global studies coursework as well as elective coursework from three areas of focus: global trade and commerce; race, culture, and identity; and global peace, security, and services. You will also have experiential learning opportunities that enable you to put your knowledge into action through study abroad/study away, language learning, and internship opportunities.
Upon completion of this minor, you will be able to:
- Understand major systems that guide global structures, such as economics, politics, geopolitics, business, and social and economic development
- Articulate and appreciate the importance of diversity and the need to promote it in various spheres of life
- Recognize the personal and social responsibilities of your role as a global citizen
