In his own words, Ryan Marcyjanik shares how the Communicating Arts Department helped him discover his passion.
When thinking about the Communicating Arts Department, what comes right to my mind is it has given me every experience possible when it comes to learning about the subject of communications.
Whether that be from getting hands-on experience in my field of study (communication and multimedia journalism) through classes, working with iFan.tv, going into the radio station 91.3 FM KUWS, creating video projects, and working with the student newspaper, The Promethean, or getting to experience the other fields of communications, such as the Theatre Department to broaden my understanding of the field of study. These opportunities have allowed me to find a home at UW-Superior in the Communicating Arts Department and be able to hone my skills in job fields I am interested in through hands-on experience and making connections.
Thanks to all the professors in the Communicating Arts Department, I was able to figure out what my passion is as I have gotten to learn everything I possibly can from their respective fields. This ability to combine both hands-on experiences, making connections and learning from experts in the fields of communications, has made my time at UWS one of my greatest accomplishments.
If there is one thing I could stress to new students coming to UWS or those considering UWS and the Communicating Arts Department, it would be that no matter which area of communications peaks your interests, there are plenty of opportunities and professors knowledgeable in the field. Even if something is not offered here on campus, they will work with you to find a business in the community to help reach the goals you are striving for, and to get the most out of your time here at UWS.
