Professional Licensure Disclosures

Overview

The United States Department of Education requires institutions that provide distance education to disclose information for programs leading to professional certification or licensure. The expectation is that will determine whether each applicable academic program meets state professional licensure requirements and provide a general disclosure of such on an official university website.

Professional licensure requirements vary from state-to-state and can change year-to-year; they are established in a variety of state statutes, regulations, rules, and policies; and they center on a range of educational requirements, including degree type, specialized accreditation, total credits, specific courses, and examinations.

In accordance with disclosure requirements under UW System Administrative Policy 121, UW-Superior has taken reasonable efforts to determine whether its licensure programs satisfy the educational requirements in states where prospective and enrolled students are located. This information is provided through the general disclosures listed below.

UW-Superior Educator Licensure Program Disclosures

All UW-Superior educator licensure programs are approved by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Upon successful completion of all requirements for your UW-Superior educator licensure program and degree, you are eligible to hold a Wisconsin educator license (note that Early Childhood, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education and Special Education students will also need to pass the Wisconsin Foundation of Reading Test or DPI-approved equivalent measure to receive a Wisconsin Tier II license or higher).

Because UW-Superior is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and because these educator licensure programs are approved by DPI, each UW-Superior educator licensure program fulfills the requirements of other states to be a (Wisconsin) state-approved program from an accredited institution.

If you desire licensure in a state other than Wisconsin, most states will require a review of your credentials to determine what equivalent licensure you are eligible for in that state. Note that some states will issue a license or notification that will allow you to serve as an educator in that state, in accordance with your completed program, while completing other state-specific requirements (for example, professional development training, coursework, work experience, etc.) in order to be eligible for a license that indicates all state requirements have been met. In some states, providing a copy of your Wisconsin-issued license may waive certain state-specific requirements; therefore it may be to your advantage to obtain your Wisconsin license even if you intend to seek licensure in another state.

The following information is based on the most recent review of licensure requirements. Please know that licensure requirements can change; stay in touch with your state’s licensing agency throughout your program.

UW-Superior may be able to provide coursework or support in addressing any further licensure requirements; talk with your advisor or contact the UW-Superior Education Department for assistance.

If you would like to enroll in this program even though the program does not meet your state licensing requirements, please review and sign the attestation statement.
