The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will host talented high school singers from throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota for its Chorfest High School Honor Choir Festival on Tuesday, October 22.
“Chorfest is unique among high school honor festivals because it allows students to perform choral works with an orchestra consisting of some of the best musicians in the Twin Ports,” said Michael Fuchs, UW-Superior director of choral activities and Music Department chair. “This is an opportunity that is not available in many high schools and smaller communities, and we are thrilled to provide an avenue through which students from the region can experience this wonderful music.”
Featuring a day of rehearsals, tours and masterclasses, conductors and clinicians include Fuchs, and UW-Superior colleagues.
This event, which gets underway at 9 a.m., will include area high school students coming together to perform “Carmina Burana,” composed by Carl Orff. This dynamic masterpiece celebrates the timeless themes of fate, fortune and revelry.
Chorfest concludes with a public concert featuring high school vocalists along with UW-Superior singers at 7 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium. Under the direction of Fuchs and accompanied by two pianos and a full battery of percussion instruments, students will share the stage with the UWS Choral Ensembles in an abridged performance of “Carmina Burana.” Chorfest will also feature performances by the UWS Singers and Chorale and guest musical artists from Uganda.
The concert will close with a performance of “North” by Ryan O’Neal. Tickets for the performance are $5 adults and free for students. Thorpe Langley Auditorium is in Old Main, 1710 Weeks Ave.
