The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department presents its Jazz Band with the Big Time Jazz Orchestra in a special Scholarship Concert on Tuesday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Manion Theatre. Proceeds from the concert will go toward the Big Time Jazz Orchestra Scholarship for a UW-Superior music major for excellence in jazz studies.
Under the direction of Greg Kehl Moore, professor of music and jazz program director at UW-Superior, the concert will feature the Jazz Band playing works by Count Basie and Duke Ellington with a special vocal arrangement featuring UW-Superior student Derek Ruport performing the Frank Sinatra classic “Under My Skin.”
The Big Time Jazz Orchestra, a staple of the annual concert, will perform tunes from classics such as Count Basie, along with original compositions. Highlights include a performance of the band’s 20th Anniversary Suite, which will be recorded in June, and “Unity Blues,” written by Moore.
Suggested donation for this concert is $10. Manion Theatre is in the Holden Fine Arts Center at 1805 Catlin Ave. in Superior.
