UW-Superior Music Departments hosts inaugural Music Major for a Day event

The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department recently hosted its inaugural Music Major for a Day event.

Taking place on Monday, February 3, the event allowed high school students the opportunity to attend courses such as music theory, class piano, aural skills and music history.

“The UWS Music Department had a wonderful time hosting this event, sharing our passion of music advocacy and providing high school students the opportunity to experience what majoring in music entails,” said Steven Siegel, DMA, director of bands and trumpet at UW-Superior. “We look forward to continuing this educational and enriching experience in the future.”

The nearly 20 students also received a private lesson on their instrument of choice, observed UW-Superior’s Chamber Singers and Jazz Band rehearsals and took part in a Q&A session with current UWS music students and faculty. While on campus, the students enjoyed lunch in the Yellowjacket Union and took part in a tour of campus.

“This was a very worthwhile event, and the students all had a blast,” said Kirk McBrayer, band director at Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood, Michigan. “It’s always a treat when students can experience advanced musical events outside of high school.”
