UW-Superior, Northwood Technical College hold inaugural Seamless Transfer Conference

Goal of the conference was to collaborate on ways to promote seamless and holistic transfer between the two institutions

Recently 75 instructors, advisors and administrators from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Northwood Technical College came together for the inaugural Seamless Transfer Conference.

The purpose of the conference was to collaborate on ways to promote seamless and holistic transfer between the two institutions’ shared students. Instructors from programs in which students enroll and transfer from the associate to the bachelors degree included business, education, health and social work.

The first day of the conference was held at UW-Superior’s Yellowjacket Union. Provost Dr. Maria Cuzzo and Northwood Tech provost Aliesha Crowe welcomed the participants, emphasizing the shared commitment of the two institutions.

“Maintaining a strong relationship between our institutions provides a benefit to our students, our institutions and our Twin Ports region,” said UW-Superior chancellor Dr. Renee Wachter. “A strong relationship between our two schools is part of UW-Superior’s role as ‘Anchor of the North.’”

Keynote speakers were Jason Dodge of George Mason University and Jennifer Nelson of Northern Virginia Community College. They provided a model of their campuses’ transfer practices, which enable thousands of students to transfer smoothly.

The second day of the conference was held at Northwood Tech’s Superior campus, where four Northwood Tech students shared their experience with participants and emphasized the value of flexibility and options in their educations. The participants then worked with their cross-institutional counterparts to create new connections, make plans to review curriculum together and otherwise develop new ideas to continuously improve students’ experience. Northwood Tech president John Will provided concluding remarks.
