Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults

Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 8:00 AM
Location: Yellowjacket Union Room 203
Event Category: Continuing Education Event

In this workshop, learners will gain an understanding of the impact of anxiety and depression that occur later in life. Older adults and those who support them will learn about this age group’s specific risks and protective factors that can help with mental health or substance use challenges, as older adults are less likely to seek treatment. This early intervention training program prepares certified learners to have the necessary conversations with individuals to enable them to live as comfortably and independently as possible.

WHAT IT COVERS • The unique impacts of mental health and substance use challenges on older adults. • Risk factors and protective factors specific to older adults. • Applying the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE) in scenarios designed to reflect the unique needs and experiences of older adults. • National, regional and community mental health resources for older adults and their caregivers.

WHO SHOULD TAKE IT • Individuals who are a part of, connected to or support older adults and their families.
