The program will feature a recent arrangement of Igor Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” for two pianos and percussion. Originally composed for symphony orchestra, “The Rite of Spring” is a seminal work in music history, known for its daring break from traditional harmonic and rhythmic conventions, helping to pave the way for modernist techniques. With its dissonant harmonies, intricate rhythms and groundbreaking orchestration, Stravinsky’s composition challenged the norms of classical music, leaving a lasting impact on 20th-century composers. Its 1913 premiere famously sparked a riot, underscoring the emotional and cultural upheaval it inspired within the music world and beyond.

The second half of the program will feature Claude Bolling’s “Sonata for Two Pianists, Percussion, and Bass No. 1.”
