Overview

Philosophy investigates fundamental questions about human identity, purpose and values, the nature of knowledge and reality, individuality and political power. With a minor in philosophy, you will be challenged with some difficult problems while developing the skills to review, assess and propose new and creative solutions or examples. You will take on questions that humans have been asking for thousands of years and learn the differing perspectives that have contributed to their various answers.

A minor in philosophy can be paired with almost any major program and will help sharpen your problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities, attributes that are beneficial both personally and professionally as you pursue a career.

The Social Inquiry Department’s history and philosophy programs have absolutely changed my life! I’ve been given so many wonderful and unique opportunities to grow my academic and professional skills. Through that and the encouragement of everyone in the department, I’ve gained so much more confidence in myself, in and out of the classroom.

The philosophy program is great! I have learned so much not only from the classes but the professors. It is easy to see the professors are passionate about what they teach and are always available if you need help understanding material or just want to talk more in-depth about the concepts that were taught. I know I will be able to take what I have learned and apply it to my life outside of college.
