Awarded to a single recipient according to the following criteria: For an incoming freshman graduating from Superior High School with at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA and a major in a STEM related field. First preference for a resident of Billings Park in Superior, WI. Second preference for a student from Superior, WI. Third preference for a student that graduated from Northwestern High School in Maple, WI.

For a student who is in good academic standing and demonstrates financial need. First preference to a student majoring in Chemistry. Second preference to a student majoring in any other Natural Sciences major. If no students with a Natural Science major have financial need, make the award to a student majoring in Chemistry and in good academic standing.

Mary Balcer – Lydia Thering Environmental Scholarship
For a junior or senior Biology or Environmental Science major with an aquatic sciences focus. Recipients must have completed at least 20 credits of Biology or Chemistry classes at UW-Superior with a science GPA of 3.25 or higher. Preference given to students who are currently designing an aquatic research project with a member of the UW-Superior science faculty. Recipients may be eligible of renewal of the scholarship award for a second year if they maintain a 3.25 science GPA and make satisfactory progress on a research project and completion of their degree. Applicants must describe their proposed research activities and will be required to include a faculty/staff sponsor statement showing support for the project with their scholarship application.

Richard I. Bong Memorial Scholarship
For an upperclassman enrolled at UW-Superior and in AFROTC. Preference should be given to students from Northwest Wisconsin. In the event there is not an eligible student studying AFROTC, the scholarship should be awarded to a student from the Northwestern School District enrolled at UW-Superior. Preference will be given to students who serve as volunteers at the Richard Bong Heritage Center.
