Alumni & Friends Foundation Scholarships

An Investment in our Students

The UW-Superior Alumni and Friends Foundation provides many scholarships funded by donations from alumni and friends of the university that can help you pay for your education. We encourage all incoming and continuing students to apply!

The scholarship application for new and incoming students opens October 1st. The next scholarship application season for current students will be in February 2025. Near that time details will be sent to current students via campus email. Details on both processes are below.

Scholarships Application Process

There are two separate application processes: one for prospective and incoming students, and one for continuing students. See below for information.

Prospective and Incoming Student Information

✓
  • New freshmen applicants who have been admitted to UW-Superior with a high school GPA of 2.75 or higher may be considered for a Foundation Scholarship. In certain cases and for certain awards, a lower GPA may be considered, depending on the scholarship application essay.
  • Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis among this group. Award recipients usually have high academic merit and will have submitted an exceptional essay.
  • Scholarship recipients must generally enroll as full-time students (12 or more credits per semester)
  • Transfer students are considered for scholarships on a rolling basis as they are admitted.
✓
  1. You must be admitted to UW-Superior prior to submitting your scholarship application essay.
  2. Once you are admitted to UW-Superior, you must submit a scholarship application essay to be considered for a Foundation scholarship.
  3. All admitted students who have submitted a scholarship application essay prior to Jan. 1 will be considered for the first round of scholarships. After the first round of scholarship awards, scholarships will be awarded on a rolling basis.
✓
  • Oct. 1: scholarship application essay opens
  • Jan. 1: First scholarship deadline
  • After Jan. 1: Rolling scholarship award process
    • This pool will consist of students who have been admitted after Jan. 1, students who submitted their scholarship application essay after Jan. 1, and students who didn’t receive a scholarship in the first round of scholarship awards.
✓

Scholarships are awarded for the following academic year and are applied directly to student accounts in equal installments for the fall and spring semesters.

Current Student Information

The Foundation is not accepting current student scholarship applications at this time.

✓
  • The FAFSA will be used to determine a student’s financial need. FAFSA paperwork must be submitted each year to the Financial Aid office  to be considered for scholarships that include financial need as part of the criteria.
  • Students who receive a full-tuition UW-Superior Foundation scholarship are generally not eligible for additional Foundation scholarships.
  • Please do not apply if you will be graduating in the spring or summer of the current academic year.
✓
  1. Complete the scholarship application. When the UW-Superior Foundation has annnounced that it is time to submit your application (usually in early February), complete the application online
    • Please note: Some scholarships have very specific criteria, and you will be directed to a short secondary application if you may qualify for those based on information from your general application.
    • If you need assistance, please call 715-394-8452 between 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday or email scholarships@uwsuper.edu, and someone will help you as soon as possible.
  2. Department committees will review the applications and evaluate them to determine which students shall be awarded Foundation Scholarships based on the donor-specified criteria for each scholarship.
  3. Watch your email for your Foundation Scholarship Award Letter. The Foundation will email award letters to students who were recommended for scholarships. This usually occurs by mid-May.
  4. Submit your acceptance thank-you letter: Your scholarship award email will give directions on how to submit a letter of appreciation.
    • A scholarship can be applied to your account only after your thank-you letter has been received. Failure to submit the thank-you letter may result in the scholarship being re-awarded to another student.
    • Having trouble submitting your thank-you letter online? The system does not allow you to upload a document with more than one punctuation mark in the file name, so that may be the issue if you’re having trouble. Rename your letter(s) and try again. You can also email your letter(s) as an attachment to scholarships@uwsuper.edu
