Nonresident Tuition Waiver (NTW) Awards
Living outside Wisconsin or Minnesota? The NTW Award can reduce your nonresident tuition by nearly 50% — automatically considered after admission based on academic merit and/or financial need.
Fully online students: Students enrolled in fully online degree programs are not charged nonresident tuition and are not eligible for the NTW Program.

NTW Eligibility Requirements
NTW Award and NTW Scholar Award amounts and eligibility criteria are estimates for the 2026–27 academic year and are subject to change.
NTW Award
First-Year Students
- GPA of 2.9 to 3.3
- Pell Grant Eligibility: GPA of 2.5-2.9
Transfer Students
- GPA of 2.5-2.9
- Pell Grant Eligibility: GPA of 2.3-2.7
NTW Scholar Award
First-Year Students
- GPA of 3.4 or higher
- Pell Grant Eligibility: GPA of 2.9 or higher
Transfer Students
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Pell Grant Eligibility: GPA of 2.8 or higher
Graduate tuition awards are available only to eligible students enrolled in fully in-person programs. Students enrolled in fully online programs are not eligible. For graduate tuition rates and award eligibility, see our graduate tuition page or contact admissions.
Applying for and Renewing an NTW Award
Admitted students are automatically considered for an NTW Award or NTW Scholar Award based on academic merit and/or financial need. Students cannot receive both awards.
Nonresident domestic students who do not qualify for either award may be considered for the Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP), based on residency and program eligibility.
NTW awards are subject to the conditions outlined in the NTW offer letter and acceptance form, as well as the discretion of the NTW Council. Awards are offered on a rolling basis after admission.
Awards may be renewed for up to four years (eight semesters), provided students meet the conditions outlined in their award letter and acceptance form. Extension options are available.
Minnesota Reciprocity
The Minnesota-Wisconsin Reciprocity Agreement allows eligible Minnesota residents attending UW-Superior to pay a tuition rate comparable to that of a similar public institution in Minnesota. This can offer substantial savings compared with standard nonresident tuition.
Students must apply for and receive reciprocity before the end of their first semester. Applying before the semester begins is recommended. Students are responsible for applying; failure to receive reciprocity may result in being charged nonresident tuition and fees.
