Associate of Science in Teaching

Overview

The Associate of Science in Teaching degree prepares students to succeed in a teacher education degree program. Students will complete the foundations of education courses needed to move directly into the Teacher Education Program at UW-Superior in a cost-effective manner and learner-centered environment. Students will also receive individualized academic advising to help them transition into the Teacher Education Program. Completion of the A.S. degree satisfies University Studies requirements at UW-Superior and other University of Wisconsin System universities.

The A.S. degree does not culminate in teacher licensure but does prepare students to transition into a teacher licensure program.

What You’ll Learn

Students will cover core University Studies courses including math, writing, sciences, and humanities. As students focus on their Teacher Education courses, they will cover critical topics such as the history, philosophy, and social foundation underlying current trends and issues in PK-12 education in the U.S. and Wisconsin. They will also consider the topic of diversity in education, studying issues surrounding inequality and the inequities impacting student success across the U.S.

Outcomes

• Individual and Social Responsibility:  Students will engage in personal development, interpersonal competence, and social responsibility through active learning.
• Creative and Critical Thinking.  Students will engage in creative and critical thinking and practice based on multiple forms of evidence, processes, and diverse perspectives.
