UW-Superior professor teaching a political science class

Overview

Active citizenship is the foundation of the political science program at UW-Superior. As a student in this program, you’ll have the chance to investigate the roots of political and social problems and formulate creative strategies to address existing local, state, national, and international issues.

The political science minor is a great fit for students interested in pursuing a civics-focused career, or who simply want to gain a better understanding of their own role in government as an informed citizen.

You will benefit from three areas of emphasis:

  • American politics
  • International peace studies
  • Political theory

You’ll be able to choose from many unique opportunities, including internships, study-abroad, and academic service learning. Also, you can participate in the university’s political science community through student organizations, such as Model United Nations, the International Peace Studies Association, and the Political Science Association.

What You’ll Learn

As a minor in political science at UW-Superior, you will:

  • Analyze, interpret, and understand assigned readings
  • Effectively identify, evaluate, and formulate arguments
  • Develop, organize, and express ideas in a clear and effective manner
  • Recognize and appreciate multiple perspectives
  • Formulate and develop solutions through political action

The Political Science program at UWS has been a wonderful opportunity. My professors are engaging, and I have had the chance to apply my knowledge in multiple Academic Service-Learning projects. The small class sizes allowed me to get to know my professors well and to get a more thorough understanding of the material, and I feel comfortable and supported in sharing my thoughts and questions.
