Jackets Vote to host ‘Depolarizing Within’ workshop

TYPE

The University of Wisconsin-Superior will host “Depolarizing Within” on Wednesday, September 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room.

Free and open to the community, this event is hosted by Jackets Vote, a program of the Link Center, facilitated by Braver Angels and supported by the Center for Continuing Education.

Gain valuable insights to engage effectively with everyone – friends, family, community and beyond. The “Depolarizing Within” workshop is designed to foster skills to help attendees lessen the effects of polarization when encountered in political conversations. “Polarization,” is not referring to healthy disagreements over issues or philosophy, but about how individuals regard and talk about large groups of people on the other side of the political aisle.

Goals of the workshop include how to be more aware of your own “inner polarizer;” how to be critical without demonizing, dismissing or stereotyping large swaths of the population; and strategies for

intervening constructively in social conversations with like-minded peers when these conversations veer into contempt and ridicule for people who hold other political views.

Registration is available online.

Jackets Vote, the Link Center and UW-Superior are nonpartisan and neither endorse nor oppose any political party, candidate, or viewpoint. This is a nonpartisan voter education event and program for UW-Superior and the community.

The Yellowjacket Union is at 1605 Catlin Ave. in Superior.
