The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will present American Voices: Celebrating 250 Years of American Choral Music on Thursday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium.
“The concert celebrates the rich variety and diversity of people, perspectives, and musical styles that have shaped 250 years of American choral music,” said Michael Fuchs, D.M.A., UW-Superior director of choral activities, associate professor, and chair of the Music Department.
The program will feature works by composers Randall Thompson, Morten Lauridsen, and Samuel Barber, among others. It will also include a choral arrangement of Paul Simon’s American Tune; an arrangement of a Lakota lullaby by Linthicum-Blackhorse; and the spiritual Ain’a That Good News.
The performance will feature the UW-Superior chorale and guest singers, as well as the Lake Superior College Concerto Choir under the direction of Cal Metts.
“The concert will conclude with both choirs performing Leonard Bernstein’s Make Our Garden Grow,” Fuchs said.
Tickets are $5 for adults and free for students. Thorpe Langley Auditorium is in Old Main, 1710 Weeks Ave.
