Seamless Transfer

TOPIC

Transferring colleges or universities can feel like a daunting process. That’s why Northwood Tech and the University of Wisconsin-Superior teamed up to make it easier for students, especially those in the University Transfer Degree – Associate of Arts or Associate of Science programs, who can take advantage of a guaranteed transfer.

“We’ve done the work to make a solid plan for seamless transfer,” said Matt Dietsche, associate dean at Northwood Tech. “We share that plan through advisors and counselors on both campuses.  Students and families can therefore find peace in truth on how seamless transfer creates momentum for students and adds value on their educational journeys.”

What are the University Transfer Degree programs?

In these programs, students can enroll in classes at Northwood Tech and UW-Superior to complete the requirements of their Northwood Tech Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree. These programs allow for a seamless transfer to complete a bachelor degree upon completion. The AA and AS degrees give students the base general coursework needed to pursue a wide variety of majors.

Furthermore, classes can be taken in person or online, giving students the ultimate location flexibility. Want the more traditional college experience? UW-Superior offers students the option to stay in its residence halls and take advantage of intramural programming and meal plans.

“The transfer agreement that Northwood Tech and UW-Superior have created is a great option for students,” said Maria Cuzzo, UW-Superior provost. “Not only are our campuses a short walk from each other, we now have a smooth pathway to serve the needs of students in the Northland.”

Support for your vision of success along the way

“Northwood Tech’s energy in industry and UW-Superior’s more than 50 respected majors and concentrations have created a powerful partnership of freely sharing high impact practices,” explained Dietsche. “We all help each other, and everyone leans into the student’s vision for how they want to take next steps that create balance with the rest of their lives.”

One of the unique ways the institutions work together is through collaborative advising. For example, when a student meets with a counselor and knows they’d like to pursue a specific major at UW-Superior upon completion, counselors from both institutions team up to advise the student on the best coursework for them to reach their individual goals and get the best value out of their classes.  That doesn’t mean students have to know exactly what four-year degree they’d like to pursue.

“A lot of times students come into the AA or AS program without a clear idea of a career path, they just know they want to further their education.  It’s fantastic to see them figure things out as they go, take a variety of classes, and explore their interests,” says Northwood Tech Counselor Katie Rybak.

“Our transfer advisors and I enjoy working with Northwood Tech students and can help them transfer credits, create a program plan and register for courses,” said Anne Carlson, Transfer Center coordinator. “We’re also here to connect them with campus resources and activities and just be a source of support to ensure they have a positive experience.”

Between the two institutions, students have access to help with study and organizational skills, library resources, accommodations for disabilities, tutoring, technology resources, and more.

“Through this positive, supportive collaboration, students are given full permission to shape transformation on their terms and their schedule with supportive community and relevant tools between two excellent schools”, said Dietsche. “It’s a Superior win-win for shaping everyday transformation in our joint learners, their grateful families, and their empowered communities.”
