Students celebrate Earth Week with variety of events

In recognition of Earth Week, University of Wisconsin-Superior students have been taking part in a variety of activities around campus.

A campus cleanup event took place on Monday, April 15. During the hour-long event, students picked up four buckets worth of trash from around campus.

Upcycling Craft Night was held Tuesday, April 16, in the Yellowjacket Union Shippar Atrium. This event allowed students to make their own crafts with eco-friendly materials.

The Yellowjacket Union Shippar Atrium also hosted Eco-Friendly Bingo on Wednesday, April 17. Sponsored by the Yellowjacket Activities Crew and the Sustainability Club, this event gave students a chance to win eco-friendly prizes and learn more about green practices.

Yet sustainability on campus isn’t restricted to only a few days a year.

UW-Superior student Lucas Palomino recently presented “Sustainability Recommendations for UWS Technology Department” which included multiple ways the department could become more sustainable. Suggestions included changes to software and printing practices to how supplies are purchased.
