The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will present Vincent Osborn, double bass, on Tuesday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Webb Recital Hall as part of its University Recital Series.
Osborn, a senior lecturer in UW-Superior’s Music Department, will be joined in the first half of the performance by his colleague and pianist Alexander Sandor for a rarely heard Sonata for Double Bass by Austrian composer Robert Fuchs.
“Robert Fuchs is best known as a professor of music theory at the Vienna Conservatory, and his students include, among others, Gustav Mahler and Jean Sibelius,” said Osborn.
The first half of the recital will also feature pieces by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Reinhold Glière and Giovanni Bottesini.
For the second half of the concert, Osborn will be joined by cellist Ed Willett of Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua.
“We will be performing duets for cello and bass by Gioachino Rossini and Edgar Meyer,” said Osborn. “Since the recital falls the day after St. Patrick’s Day, don’t be surprised if a few Irish tunes make their way into the program.”
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door with cash, check or credit card. Webb Recital Hall is in Holden Fine and Applied Arts, 1805 Catlin Ave.
