The University of Wisconsin-Superior will co-sponsor the LiveWell! 5K Walk/Run/Roll & Celebration on Thursday, August 15, at Barker’s Island in Superior. This event is free and open to the community.

“We work to identify and create innovative ways to address the current mental health crisis in our community,” said Ayla Ranta, team coordinator for LiveWell! who is also pursuing a Master of Science Education degree in clinical mental health counseling from UW-Superior. “One way we do this is through #BetterTogether activities which encourage connection and prevent social isolation. As part of this initiative, we are excited to host our first 5K fostering togetherness and advocating for mental wellness in our community.”

This free, family friendly community celebration will begin at 5 p.m. with the 5K starting at 6 p.m. for walkers and runners. Rollers – inclusive to all wheeled devices – will have a staggered start beginning at 6:15 p.m. This fun run 5K will not be chipped or timed. Helmets are encouraged for wheeled participants.

At 6:45 p.m. all will be invited to partake in a post-race celebration. Activities will include a food station serving burgers, hotdogs and more. There will be a seating area for eating and connecting, a DJ playing music and commentating throughout the night. Outdoor yard games will include corn hole, badminton, Kubb and bocce. Conversation domes will also be available as a welcoming space to sit and connect with others. The event will conclude at 9 p.m.

Registration, which closes August 1, is available online.

The LiveWell! 5K Walk/Run/Roll & Celebration is hosted by LiveWell! Northern WI, which is a holistic mental health project created to support those who are living, working and attending school in Douglas County. Additional sponsors include Miller-Dwan Foundation, Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation and Essentia Health.
