UW-Superior designated a Military Friendly® School for 16 consecutive years

The University of Wisconsin-Superior has been designated a Military Friendly® Silver School by G.I. Jobs®, recognizing the university’s efforts to assist military personnel, veterans and their family members in completing a college education. This is the 16th consecutive year that UW-Superior has been designated a Military Friendly® School.

“I am overjoyed by this designation, as I believe it is a testament to how incredible our military-connected community is on campus,” said Gabriel Sexton, interim Veteran and Nontraditional Student Programs coordinator at UW-Superior. “From the policies to the personnel, everyone is always willing to support our veterans and their families. Our benefits specialist, Lynn Karna, is a huge part of this success. She is not only a knowledgeable resource but also a wonderful spirit. This ranking demonstrates how much we truly value our student veterans and our ongoing commitment to supporting them throughout the years.”

Military Friendly® found that, “UW-Superior is dedicated to assisting military members and provides services that meet their needs in transitioning to higher education. A dedicated staff is available to assist students with securing GI Bill benefits and navigating the admissions process. Based on academic policies, veteran students receive transfer credit for education and certain specialized trainings completed in the military. With a veteran center on campus, veterans find a relaxing atmosphere, comfortable place to study, and resources that answer questions about campus and community support. UW-Superior offers a Veteran’s Transition class to ensure every veteran has the tools and support to succeed at UW-Superior.”

UW-Superior received high marks for its academic policies and compliance, admissions and orientation, culture and commitment and financial aid and assistance. UW-Superior features a Veteran and Nontraditional Student Center that provides a wide range of support programming for veterans of all ages.

Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2025-2026 survey with 830 earning special awards for going above the standard. The 2025-2026 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May and October issue of G.I. Jobs magazine and found at www.militaryfriendly.com.

Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by Viqtory with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.

“Military Friendly® is committed to transparency and providing consistent data-driven standards in our designation process,” said Kayla Lopez, vice president, Military Friendly®. “Our standards provide a benchmark that promotes positive outcomes and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the Military Community. This creates a competitive atmosphere that encourages Institutions to evolve and invest in their programs consistently. Schools who achieve awards designation show true commitment in their efforts, exceeding the standard.”
