UW-Superior Jazz Band and BTJO to perform Scholarship Concert

TYPE

The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will present its Jazz Band in concert with the Big Time Jazz Orchestra (BTJO) in a special Scholarship Concert on Thursday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Manion Theater. Proceeds from the concert will support a scholarship for a UW-Superior music major who demonstrates excellence in jazz studies.

Under the direction of Greg Kehl Moore, professor of music and director of the jazz program at UW-Superior, the concert will feature the Jazz Band performing works by Count Basie, Duke Ellington and other jazz legends.

The BTJO/UWS Jazz Scholarship, first established in 2002, is awarded annually to a UW-Superior music student based on excellence in jazz studies. The recipient is selected by the UW-Superior Music Department faculty. The 2025 scholarship winner will be announced during intermission at the concert.

Founded in 1990 by artistic director Randy Lee, the BTJO is known for the high caliber of its musicians and its challenging repertoire. As a nonprofit organization, the BTJO regularly donates its performances to support charitable causes. This concert is the latest in a long tradition of such efforts. Past performances have raised funds for organizations including the Duluth Bethel Society, the Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity.

Suggested donation for this concert is $15. Manion Theater is in the Holden Fine Arts Center at 1805 Catlin Ave. in Superior.
