The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will present UW-Superior Professor of Percussion Brett Jones with guest artist Doug Walter on Tuesday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Webb Recital Hall as part of the University Recital Series.

For Jones, the concert offers the opportunity to perform works for multiple drum set-ups, as well as marimba and vibraphone duos with a longtime mentor.

“Doug was my professor at the University of Colorado from 1996 to 2000,” said Jones. “This recital is very special to me because I get to perform with my teacher. Doug retired from CU last year, and this performance is part of a multi-state university tour.”

Walter is the only marimba/vibraphone artist to win first prize in the Concert Artists Guild Competition in New York City. He has performed more than 350 solo recitals and concerti in 40 states, Canada, Brazil, and eight European countries, and has appeared at conventions of the Percussive Arts Society and the International Association of Jazz Educators. An accomplished orchestral musician, Walter has performed with the Dallas Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Santa Fe Opera, Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, and Colorado Ballet Orchestra.

The performance will feature original compositions by both Jones and Walter, including the world premiere of their arrangement of Debussy’s famous Passepied from Suite Bergamasque. Walter will also perform with UW‑Superior bass instructor Vincent Osborne.

Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door. Webb Recital Hall is located in the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center, 1805 Catlin Ave.
