Generative AI and Scholarly Research and Publishing: Disclosure and Citation Practices in Academic Research

  • Do I have to cite ChatGPT?  

  • How do I do that, anyway?  

  • What if I am presenting or publishing, and I’ve just used a Generative AI tool to help organize or something – are there expectations for disclosure?  

  • Can I give ChatGPT my classmate’s paper to summarize, or can I use Generative AI in peer review?  

This interactive session will address these questions and more, with a central focus on clarifying and strengthening practices of usage, disclosure, and citation in line with scholarly best practices. As time permits, the session will be loosely structured around participant questions.

Join us in the Library, Room 231, or  UWS users can register to join by Zoom. (The session will not be recorded. Due to the session’s interactive nature, participants are asked to please refrain from using AI transcription).  

Open to UWS Faculty, Staff, and Students; Community members are also welcome to attend in-person. 

Participants will leave the session able to:  

  • Locate and apply citation procedures for AI-generated content in line with their discipline’s/major’s established norms and best practices.  

  • Integrate disclosure of the use of Generative AI tools into their final product (e.g. presentation, paper,…
