The University of Wisconsin-Superior has introduced a new cybersecurity concentration for its computer science major, expanding academic offerings once again to meet increased demand in one of the nation’s fastest-growing career fields.
The program is designed to prepare students for careers in cybersecurity through a combination of strong computer science fundamentals and specialized training in areas such as network security, ethical hacking and digital forensics. The degree is available both on campus and fully online, with every course offered in both formats to provide flexibility for students.
The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world application. Students will engage in attack-and-defense simulations, cybersecurity labs and applied coursework that mirrors current industry challenges. Coursework is aligned with expectations set by the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity, helping ensure graduates are prepared for both industry and government roles.
Students in the program will develop practical skills in cybersecurity principles, risk assessment, threat analysis, secure programming and incident response. The program also incorporates studies in cybersecurity policy, law and ethics, providing a comprehensive foundation for addressing complex security challenges.
UW-Superior integrates high-impact learning experiences throughout the program, including internships with regional and national employers and a senior capstone project. These opportunities are designed to give students real-world experience before graduation.
Graduates will be prepared for a wide range of roles, including cybersecurity analyst, information security specialist, network security engineer, penetration tester, digital forensics analyst, security operations center analyst and IT security consultant. The program also provides a strong foundation for advanced study in cybersecurity or related fields.
