LSRI Water Testing Sample Instructions and Information
1. Order Your Test
If you haven’t already done so, you may place your order here or in person when you pick up your testing supplies. Please note that we accept card payments online and cash/check in person.
2. Getting Your Testing Supplies
Each testing kit includes clear instructions to help ensure accurate sampling, and our staff is available to answer any questions about proper collection methods. Whether you pick up or have bottles delivered, we make it easy to get started with safe and reliable water testing.
Where to Pickup/Drop off Your Kit on Campus
Collection bottles for water testing are available for pickup at the Lake Superior Research Institute during regular business hours. We are conveniently located on the University of Wisconsin Superior Campus in the basement of Barstow Hall. We have a reserved parking spot for sample drop off in Lot 7 next to the Holden Fine Arts building.

3. Collecting Your Samples
This short video takes you through sample collection for bacterial and ion tests. Click the picture to be taken to the video. Instructions will also be provided with your sample bottles. Please call for information regarding WET testing sample collection. Downloadable instructions are also available below.
4. Dropping Off Samples
Accepting sample drop offs between 8am-2pm on Monday – Thursday. Results are most accurate when samples are brought to the laboratory as soon as possible after collection, so they must be dropped off within 20 hours of the collection. Samples dropped off outside of their hold times/drop off days cannot be accepted.
*Our facility is closed on all major holidays and does not accept samples the day before or of.

5. Interpreting Your Results
Once your sample has been analyzed, we will email you a detailed report. This report will include the results of all requested tests along with an explanation of what the results mean. If any results indicate a potential health concern, we will notify you immediately and recommend that you stop drinking the water until further testing or treatment can be completed.
