We would like to invite students to disagree with a professor. Yes, you heard that right!

UW-Superior’s Heterodox Campus Chapter is inviting to UW-Superior students to our first annual ‘Disagree with a Professor’ event on Thursday, December 3 from noon-1:00 PM in the Yellowjacket Union’s Shippar Atrium.

Lunch will be served. Students will sign in and then choose which table they would like to join. After a brief welcome and ground rules, students will begin their first discussion. They will then rotate around to other tables.

Students can register by going to this line: https://bit.ly/4iA89IX Please come ready to defend your position and/or, if you agree with the professor, come prepared to present some reasonable arguments from the opposing side.

Here are a few rules for the event:

  • This will be a phone-free event.
  • Be prepared to engage with ideas, not individuals. Remember that some participants may be defending positions they don’t personally hold.
  • Come curious and ready to practice intellectual humility along with an openness to being challenged.

We hope to see you there! Questions? Please reach out to the Link Center at [email protected].

Dr. Brett Jones’ topics:

·       In music (or the arts more broadly), featuring works or performers should be based on the integrity of the art, not on the artists’ race, sex, etc.

·       Though outcomes-based equity philosophy has influenced common practice in educational settings, it leads to inequality and removes an even playing field for all students.

Dr. Eleni Pinnow’s topics:

·       Alexander McQueen was the most talented designer of his generation.

·       Natural fibers make the best yarn for the fiber arts.
