Communication
No matter where your life takes you, communication is an essential skill in every industry and position and it cuts across all socio-economic, political and cultural contexts. UW-Superior is a leader in the art and practice of communication, where students study communication in multiple forms and apply it through various hands-on experience. You will learn to apply communication skills and theories in personal, professional and social contexts. Your exploration of communication will be rooted in understanding interpersonal and relational communication; persuasion and rhetoric; media, technology and society; organizational and professional communication; and public speaking and presentation skills.
This program is available on-campus or online.
What You’ll Learn
Develop the communication skills needed to connect with people, share ideas and create meaningful messages across a variety of personal, professional and digital environments. You’ll explore how communication shapes relationships, organizations, media and society while gaining practical experience applying communication strategies.
You’ll gain practical skills in:
- Effective speaking, writing and presentation
- Interpersonal and organizational communication
- Persuasion, rhetoric and message strategy
- Media analysis and digital literacy Research methods and audience analysis
- Storytelling across multiple platforms
- Collaboration and professional teamwork
Through hands-on projects and applied learning experiences, you’ll practice communicating across diverse audiences and platforms while developing the critical thinking, creativity and adaptability employers value in today’s changing workplace.
My experience with the Communication, Media and Theatre Department has been really positive. it has helped me gain valuable skills in both written and verbal communication. It has also helped me develop a critical understanding of media, culture and human interaction.
I chose the Communication and Media Arts program for both personal and professional reasons. Personally, I wanted to better understand and navigate the communication challenges I’ve seen in everyday life. Professionally, as a Public Relations Specialist for my Tribe, the skills I’ve gained through this program have been invaluable. Thanks to UWS, I’ve been able to elevate how we share information from a Tribal Government perspective.
