UW-Superior Recital Showcases Music by Celebrated Women Composers

The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will present Orchestra Director and Professor of Violin and Viola Erin Aldridge, joined by Senior Lecturers Betsy Husby, cello, and Jessica Schroeder, piano, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Webb Recital Hall. The performance is part of the University Recital Series.

The recital will feature works by women composers representing a variety of musical styles and compositional approaches. Featured composers include Clara Schumann, Lili Boulanger, Amy Beach and Cécile Chaminade.

Aldridge also serves as concertmaster of the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera of the North Orchestra and is on the faculty of the Indiana University Summer String Academy.

She has performed as a soloist with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra, Long Prairie Chamber Orchestra, Mesabi Symphony Orchestra and Itasca Symphony Orchestra. Aldridge has also appeared as a guest artist at the Indiana University Summer Music Festival, Arizona State University, DePaul University Contemporary Concert Series, Madeline Island Music Camp, Ashland Chamber Music Series, National String Workshop and the “Live at the Chazen” Concert Series. Her performances have been featured on National Public Radio, the BBC, Minnesota Public Radio and Wisconsin Public Radio.

Aldridge’s recordings include “Six Sonatas for Solo Violin, Op. 27” by Eugène Ysaÿe and “Constellations” by composer Justin Rubin on the MSR Classics label. She has also recorded with singer-songwriter Sara Thomsen and the Three Altos.

Under Aldridge’s direction, the UW-Superior Chamber Orchestra has built a reputation for innovative programming that includes both traditional and contemporary works. The UW-Superior Chamber Strings has been featured multiple times at the Wisconsin State Music Educators Conference and has toured in Brazil and China.
