“Costumes spend their lives helping tell someone else’s story. Rebel Spectacle is a chance to bring them into the light and let people see the craft, chaos, history, and imagination inside them.”
An unruly celebration of costumes and creativity from the mind and hands of Sasha Howell featuring upcycling projects, theatrical experiments, and all sorts of costume chaos with a little Rebel edge.
“Rebel Spectacle” showcases transformation, storytelling, resourcefulness, play, and the beautifully strange life of clothing made for performance. It gives visitors a chance to see costumes outside of their usual role onstage and look more closely at the craftsmanship, problem-solving, experimentation, history, and imagination built into them.
Sasha Howell is a costume designer, maker, educator, and founder of Rebel Threads, a sewing and creative reuse makerspace serving the Twin Ports. Her work explores storytelling through clothing, transformation, theatricality, identity, and the strange magic that happens when materials, characters, and imagination collide.
