Free Speech Week with the Foundation for Individual Rights & Expression (FIRE)

Jackets Vote,  a program of the Link Center, is inviting all students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community to join for presentation from Lindsie Rank from the Foundation for Individual Rights & Expression (FIRE) on Wednesday, October 21 from 5:30-7:30pm in the Yellowjacket Union Great Rooms.

As part of Free Speech Week, Ms. Rank will share a presentation titled “Free Speech Is Easy Until You Hate the Speech.” Nine in ten college students say free speech is important, but research paints a more complicated picture when it comes to offensive, provocative, or unpopular speech. So what does it really mean to support free expression? Drawing on real campus disputes across the ideological spectrum, this lecture will explore what it takes to apply free speech principles consistently.
